About the Lecture

Dr. Payk, an alumnus of our institute (Class of 2021), specializes in the study of religious freedom in China. This lecture presents the results of his current research project, focusing on Bishop W. Y. Chen—the last Methodist bishop in China—and the early repression of religious freedom in the People’s Republic of China.
