As the principle of establishment, the GIRS is dedicated to the academic study of religion and the fostering of talent in field of Religious Studies. As regards the teaching and study of religion, as well the furthering of research in the field, we endeavor to uphold three principles:
Firstly, to view “religion” in its broader sense as a comprehensive model for study, and to not relegate research to a single religious tradition.
Secondly, to employ diverse and variegated materials and technical expertise towards the advancing of scholarly study, while not remaining beholden to any particular academic school, theoretical framework, or system of methodology.
Thirdly, to emphasize the observation, analysis, and interpretation of domestic and overseas religious phenomena.
